I voted, of course. For Kerry, of course. But a few notes on the situation, which was just “resolved” two minutes ago with a concession by Kerry.
It was over when Dean dropped out. He was the only real contender. This is why Hillary didn’t run - she knew she couldn’t beat incumbent Bush.
I’ve spent time with some Republicans lately - Bush voters. At least two reading this. And I generally consider myself a bit of a Republican, though most emphatically NOT for Bush.
Point is that the problem isn’t Nader (though I think he should be drawn and quartered and the pieces sent to cannibals with poor table manners). The problem isn’t jerrymandering or questionable counting practices or hanging chad or vote fraud or anything like that.
The problem, if you can call it one, is that half the country prefers Bush. Or so close to half as to require a microscope to tell the difference. Face it. Perhaps Bush “stole” the election in Florida four years ago, but not by much. He didn’t need to. If he didn’t win, he almost won. No scam required, just people voting for you.
Our system is great, but yanno, it’s an election. Sometimes the other guy wins, and you have to suck it up.
I’m calling 2008 now, with Hillary winning by a clear but close margin over the contender - maybe Condoleeza Rice?
In the meantime, anyone want to move to Finland?
