The Squeeze Chair Project

Ah, I found a link, but I’ll also paste it in. (another good link) (a nice essay, Thinking in Pictures)

Wendy Jacob: The Squeeze Chair Project is a unique collaboration between artist Jacob and Temple Grandin, an acclaimed animal scientist. Grandin, who designed humane livestock handling facilities to restrain and calm animals, is also autistic, and because of her hypersensitivity, common among those with autism, she constructed a squeeze apparatus for herself as a means to calm her extreme anxiety. Jacob and Grandin have had a three-year dialogue, out of which Jacob designed the squeeze chairs that, with the use of a foot pump, hug the sitter. The Squeeze Chair Project documents both Grandin’s own research and the collaboration between artist and scientist. Both Wendy Jacob and Temple Grandin talked about their work at the opening; Jacob worked with students for three days at the Museum. This exhibition was organized by the Krannert Art Museum, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
